Yellowstone Landscapes and Megafauna: Past and Present introduces students to the drama of life in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, the only place in the lower 48 states where the full set of native big animals still roam. From the return of wolves in the 1990s to the ongoing battles between predators and prey, this course explores how animals shape the land and how the land, in turn, shapes them. Students will learn about Yellowstone’s natural history, food webs, succession, and ecosystem management while discovering why the park is often called the “Serengeti of North America.”
