Catalog description

As we merge more deeply with algorithmic systems, our relationship with biological reality is being radically rewritten. This interdisciplinary seminar triangulates three critical and evolving domains-Homo sapiens, the living Earth, and artificial intelligence-through the overarching theme of wellbeing. Interrogating the dichotomy between our immersion in digital spaces and our estrangement from the natural world, we examine how emerging technologies such as AI affect planetary and human health, exploring strategies for individual and collective action. From the materiality of the cloud to technobiophilia and interspecies communication, students will identify pathways where technology serves, rather than severs, our connection to the more-than-human world. Dual listed with COM 523.
