Artificial Intelligence as a Medium and Communicator

Catalog description

How is AI shaking up our society, for better or worse? What differentiates AI tools from social companions? With all its potential, do you want to be a passive or a proactive user of AI? This course will cover different roles, unique capabilities, and important implications of AI through lectures, activities, skill labs, and a capstone project. Students will (1) gain key knowledge about the evolution and applications of AI; (2) critically assess the benefits and harms of AI in ongoing ethical debates; (3) learn communication theories and media effects research to understand human-AI interactions; and (4) master hands-on skills to enhance their academic and professional growth.
