Catalog description

How is AI shaking up our society, for better or worse? What differentiates AI tools from social companions? With all its potential, do you want to be a passive or a proactive user of AI? This course will cover different roles, unique capabilities, and important implications of AI through lectures, activities, skill labs, and a capstone project. Students will (1) gain key knowledge about the evolution and applications of AI; (2) critically assess the benefits and harms of AI in ongoing ethical debates; (3) learn communication theories and media effects research to understand human-AI interactions; and (4) master hands-on skills to enhance their academic and professional growth. Dual listed with COM 521.
