Roman Archaeology I

Catalog description

The course aims to introduce students to the archaeology of the Roman Republic through the analysis of a series of topics and related case-studies. It covers the Etruscan period down to the end of the Roman Republic (8th c. BCE ¿ 1st c. BCE) and addresses the rise of Roman civilization, its expansion within the Italian peninsula and across the wider Mediterranean. During the semester, students will have the opportunity of becoming familiar with major debates in history and archaeology for the period of the Republic and to explore many important Republican monuments and archaeological sites. This course is the same as AHI338, and course repeat rules will apply. Students should consult with their major department regarding any restrictions on their degree requirements.
