Greek Archaeology II

Catalog description

This course provides the second of a two-semester overview of Greek civilization through its archaeological remains. (Greek Archaeology I is not, however, a required prerequisite.)  Over the semester we will survey architecture, sculpture, and painting (especially painted pottery) from ca. 1000 to 31 BCE, comprising the periods known as the Early Iron Age, Orientalizing, Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic.  Throughout this time span, the development of artistic styles and architectural types will be traced against the backdrop of social and cultural history, as well as political institutions. This course is the same as AHI333, and course repeat rules will apply.  Students should consult with their major department regarding any restrictions on their degree requirements.
