Catalog description
This course will focus on materials related to all aspects of nuclear energy production. It will introduce properties of materials and their selection for various sections of nuclear energy systems, such as the basics of radiation damage of materials, dislocation theories, creep, corrosion, and other degradation mechanisms. Introduce the basics of radiation detectors and the working principles underlying detection mechanisms. Overview of the basic engineering aspects of nuclear fuels, nuclear reactor systems and their designs, and fuel cycles, with an emphasis on the latest developments and outstanding problems in this field. This course is dual-listed with CE 571.
