Catalog description

This course introduces students to image-based biomedical datasets and the computational tools used to analyze them. Imaging is a fundamental way that humans understand reality, and biomedical imaging relates to nearly every aspect of modern health and research. Students will explore how different imaging modalities (ranging from MRI and CT to microscopy) capture the physical world, and will gain hands-on experience with image processing, feature extraction, annotation, and AI-based analysis. By integrating perspectives from medicine, engineering, and data science, students will learn how biomedical images become data, how AI is transforming this field, and how ethical issues such as patient privacy and annotation bias must be addressed.
