Senior Capstone Course

Catalog description

Normally taken in the final semester before graduation, this course is the culminating experience for students in the American Sign Language (ASL) and Linguistics Concentration of the BA in Linguistics. The course focuses on ASL linguistics and integrates prior coursework in ASL, sign language structure, variation, discourse, acquisition, and language use, culminating in a substantial faculty-approved capstone completed independently under faculty supervision. Students identify a focused topic, develop a proposal and literature review, and complete one of three options: (1) research paper, (2) applied project, or (3) community-engaged project. Each option culminates in a substantial final submission that demonstrates integration of prior learning, disciplinary rigor, and original analysis.
