The French Roots of American Sign Language and Deaf Culture

This two-week course examines the historical connection between French Sign Language (LSF) and American Sign Language (ASL), with a particular focus on how French influences shaped the development of Deaf culture and language in the United States. Students will engage in group discussions, connect with local Deaf communities, and visit cultural sites to understand the historical, linguistic, and social evolution of ASL. Throughout the course, students will reflect on their learning through a written assignment and a group presentation.
