Applying canonical theories of media authorship genres to Korean and Korean diasporic texts, the course will examine both universalities and cultural specificities of globally circulated Korean media. Particular attention will be given to the role of Western institutions such as international film festivals and streaming giants (Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV, etc.) in reshaping genres and subject matters of Korean media aimed at global audiences. This course is the same as DMS 355 and repeat rules may apply.
