Applied Anthropology

Catalog description

This course introduces students to the many ways anthropologists apply their skills beyond the classroom to address real-world issues and improve lives. Through guest speakers, case studies, and reflective exercises, students will explore careers in areas such as public health, UX research, community development, museums, nonprofits, business, and government. Emphasis is placed on identifying the transferable skills gained through anthropology, like cultural analysis, qualitative research, and ethical engagement, and how these skills contribute to social change and innovation. By the end of the seminar, students will be able to articulate potential career paths, connect with practicing anthropologists, and begin developing a personal plan for using anthropology to make a difference in society.
