Catalog description
This course will explore the operation, diagnosis and repair of engine controlsystem related concerns. Major topics include Sensor inputs, Control Moduleprocessing and outputs. Study will also include major systems and subsystemsincluding air intake, fuel delivery and ignition systems. This course, along withEngine Performance II, will prepare the student for the ASE "A8" techniciancertification test. Hands-on tasks required by Automotive Service Excellence(ASE) in the area of Engine Performance will be covered. This course isdesigned to prepare the student for final hands-on skills validation and is heavilylab based. On-car diagnostic testing using the Toyota Techstream scan tool,digital multimeter, PC based oscilloscope and other related diagnostic equipmentwill be covered in detail. Students are expected to register for and attempt theASE A8 Engine Performance examination at the end of TYT282. (offered fallsemester only) (.5 hr. lecture, 7.5 hrs. laboratory) Prerequisite: TYT161 andTYT162. Corequisite: TYT282.
