Surgical Technology III

Catalog description
This course provides the foundational knowledge of core and specialty surgicalprocedures. It examines the pathophysiology, diagnostic interventions, andsurgical interventions for a variety of procedures. Surgical patient drapingmaterials and techniques, surgery specific instrumentation, post-operative careand complications will be explained. Emphasis is on procedures related togeneral, obstetrics, gynecology, robotics, Interventional radiology, lasers andminimally invasive procedures. Instrumentation, equipment, and suppliesrequired for perioperative case management is incorporated. Content alsoincludes post-operative care and complications of the surgical patient. Clinicalexperiences apply foundational scientific principles, theory, skills and behaviorsof surgical technology practice. (offered fall semester only) (4 hrs. lecture, 12 hrs.clinical) Prerequisite: STC112. Students are required to have Basic Life Support(BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
