Catalog description

This course covers general principles of pharmacology as it relates to thesurgical technologist role in the perioperative environment. It will provide afoundation in pharmacology, compare and contrast the methods, agents, andanesthesia preparation and administration techniques. Topics will include drugsources, classifications, indications for use, complications, adverse reactions,interventions, monitoring devices and routes of administration. Students areinstructed how to safely prepare, label, and handle medications and solutionscommonly used in the surgical environment as well as analyze the principles ofanesthesia administration. Dosage calculation is included. (offered fall semesteronly) Corequisite: STC110.
