Enhances basic reading skills necessary for successful completion of othercontent area courses. Develops ability to read and study textbook materialseffectively; discover main ideas in paragraphs; discover meaning through use ofabsolute and conditional language; note details and make inferences; recognizestructural devices in sentences and paragraphs; draw conclusions; outline andsummarize; take notes from written and oral material; use proper form and stylefor research paper writing; develop vocabulary; prepare for and take exams; anddevelop study skills. Requires completion of 12 clock hours of individualizedlaboratory work for improvement of specific skill needs. Graded on an S-R-U-Wbasis. Not applicable toward any degree or certificate. Prerequisite: RDG098 orplacement.
