Health psychology is an area within psychology devoted to understanding theinfluence psychological factors have on health maintenance, etiology of illnessand how people react when they do become ill. Concerned with all psychologicalaspects of health and illness. Exposes students to such diverse topics as impactof life stress and life events on physical and psychological health status, stressmanagement, health maintenance behaviors (e.g., diet and exercise), and how toget people to improve their health and change health-damaging behaviors suchas smoking and alcoholism. Note: Fulfills SUNY-GE Social Sciences.Prerequisite: PSY101.
