Catalog description

This course facilitates transition from practical nursing to the role of theregistered nurse in a mental health care setting. Integrates prior knowledge of thepractical nurse to utilize the nursing process for the delivery of patient and family-centered care. Emphasizes the registered nurse role in critical thinking to planand prioritize nursing care for patients receiving treatment for acute and chronicmental health, behavioral, and/or cognitive conditions across the lifespan.Application of essential concepts in cultural and spiritual competence, safety,pharmacology, nursing process, caring, health promotion maintenance and self-health management, communication, documentation, teaching and learning,teamwork and collaboration, legal and ethical principles, and evidence-basedpractice are incorporated into this course. Registration in this course requires thatstudents purchase liability insurance through the College. (2 hrs. lecture, 3 hrs.clinical) No prerequisite. Corequisite: NUR127.
