Catalog description
Focuses on study, rehearsal and performance of music composed during 20thand 21st centuries (inclusive of all styles-classical, rock, jazz, Broadway, etc.),with emphasis on works composed during last half of the century. In addition tothe standard repertoire, new works are often premiered by the ensemble. Duringpreparation of these new compositions, ensemble works closely with composerin discussing compositional processes utilized. Enables students to gainknowledge and understanding of 20th and 21st century repertoire, compositionalprocedures, theoretical practices, historical movements and performancetechniques. All instruments and voices are welcome. Dress rehearsals andperformances are part of the class and attendance is mandatory. Note: May betaken for credit for more than two semesters. Fulfills SUNY-GE The Arts. (3 hrs.laboratory) Prerequisite: C or better in MUS122 or permission of instructor.
