Catalog description

The study of International Law as the normative representation of the system ofvalues common to all societies. The framework of this course will recognize thatstates are the principal actors in the legal system. The topics addressed willinclude human rights, group rights, the treatment of aliens, and internationalcrimes. Important areas of comparative law in the traditions of Romano-Germanic civil law and Anglo-American common law will be presented. Thecourse examines recurring problems caused by private cross-border disputesand current emerging solutions for solving such disputes. Class direction mayinclude treatment regarding laws and policies behind business practices of theEuropean Union. (offered spring semester only) Prerequisite/corequisite:LAW101 or permission of the Chair/Academic Dean.
