Catalog description
This course will explore and develop an understanding of the distinctive beliefsystems of seven of the major religions in the world today: Judaism, Christianity,Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism, and Taoism. This will occur primarilythrough an exploration of the foundational mythological stories, cosmologies, andworldviews that are unique to each of the traditions. The course will enablestudents to understand the defining, core beliefs that have emerged from thosereligious mythologies and cosmological perspectives and the resulting attitudeson the part of each religious tradition toward contemporary issues such as therole of women, exclusivist claims, spiritual practices and moral obligations.
