This course is designed to provide the student with an overview of the legal andregulatory requirements for the maintenance, retention, and dissemination ofhealth information and the role of patient documentation in legal proceedings.Major topics include: federal and state regulations; accreditation standards; thefederal and state legal system; authorizations and consents, release ofinformation, concepts of liability; civil procedures; network security;interoperability; compliance and the role of risk management. (offered springsemester only) No prerequisite.
