Introduction to EnvironmentalSciences

This course is an introductory level study of the Earth's environmental systemsand the role of humans in those systems. Students will be introduced to keyelements of ecology and ecosystem sciences, focusing on their function andimportance for human societies, as well as the impact of human activity on thesesystems. The course stresses the roles of resource availability and use,biogeochemical cycling, and anthropogenic effects, both locally and globally. Thiscourse also addresses the importance of maintaining the natural functioning ofenvironmental systems for the well-being of human society, culture, and survival.Note: Fulfills SUNY-GE Natural Sciences. (3 hrs. lecture, 2 hrs. laboratory)Prerequisite: MAT007 or equivalent.
