Survey course focusing on major works by African American writers andsocial/historical contexts informing these works. The course emphasizes howissues of race, class, and gender have informed the themes of literary worksproduced by African American writers over time, situating the works within thecontext of the struggle for emancipation, equal rights, and social justice. Note:Fulfills SUNY-GE for Diversity and SUNY-GE Humanities. Prerequisite: ENG100or ENG101.
