Guiding Young Children

Catalog description
This course explores various theories of child guidance and its practicalapplications. It provides developmentally appropriate methods for guidingchildren with and without disabilities from birth to age eight. Strategies forpreventing challenging behaviors through the use of environment, routines andschedules, as well as encouraging cooperation, conflict resolution skills, andpromoting positive social/emotional development will be presented. A focus onhelping children become more independent and including families as part of theguidance approach will be explored. Includes one, three-hour field visit to anearly childhood program. Registration in this course requires that studentspurchase liability insurance through the College. Note: This course is open to allstudents and can be used as an unrestricted elective. Prerequisite: EDU101 orpermission of the Chair/Academic Dean. Offered on A-E-G
