Analysis of role of the correctional sub-system within the criminal justice systemwith an examination of the history and philosophy of corrections; nature andproblems of the institutional system; probation, parole and other community-based alternatives to institutionalization; legal and ethical problems of thesystem; and an evaluation of the effectiveness of the system in reducing crimethrough deterrence and rehabilitation. No prerequisite.
