Forensic Biology

Catalog description

This course introduces biological concepts and relates them to their application inforensic investigation and analyses of biological evidence from various crimescenes. The biological knowledge of molecular, cellular and tissue processes andtheir application in DNA analyses, fingerprinting, serological analyses of bodyfluids and other biological materials will be presented both in lecture andlaboratory exercises. In addition, the role of the environment on bodydecomposition, the role of anthropology, entomology and plant materials in crimeinvestigation will provide the foundation for application of organism interactions tospecific forensic techniques. This course is designed for non-science and sciencemajors. Note: Fulfils SUNY-GE Natural Sciences. (3 hrs. lecture, 3 hrs.laboratory) Prerequisite: MAT007.
