Topics in Francophone Studies

Catalog description

This course explores diverse themes and contemporary issues within the Francophone world, focusing primarily on French-speaking regions in Africa, the Caribbean, and other global communities, as well as contemporary France with particular attention to the experiences of French citizens of African descent. Through an interdisciplinary approach, students will examine literature, culture, history, and social dynamics to understand the complexities of identity, migration, postcolonial legacies, language politics, and cultural production. The future topics will include the followings: Postcolonial France, Migration and Trauma, Narrating the colonial encounter, Women Voices in Francophone Africana world, and The Colonial desire.
