Catalog description

A study of how literary fiction and films confront Big Data’s ongoing quantification of everyday life. By using both digital text mining tools to analyze literature as well as practices of close reading to analyze discourses of Big Data, students will examine and evaluate these distinct ways of knowing and making meaning. Together the class will consider how lives are rendered legible, intelligible, and sometimes even expendable.
