Catalog description

What roles besides entertainment does literature play in the world? Can stories improve or even change or save a person’s life? This course introduces students to a colorful range of world fiction in English translation, ancient to modern, each of which takes on the high-stakes challenge of exploring precisely how a text itself can serve as a powerful tool of education and instrument of change both for individuals and communities.
