Embedded Technologies in Medical Devices

Catalog description
The course is directed to the essential technologies commonly used in embedded and wearable medical devices. There are two major modules, the digital circuit design and microcontroller. Hands-on projects will be done throughout the course to enhance learning. The digital circuit design module will teach the basics of combinational logic circuits and sequential logic circuits. The course will use myRIO platform to teach the students to design logic circuits and implement them on a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The microcontroller module will teach the architecture of microcontrollers and their peripheral interfaces. Focus will be on the UART, I2C and SPI buses and the knowledge will be reinforced through projects using the myRIO embedded system kit. The course will also teach Bluetooth technology widely used in wearable devices. At the end of the course, the student will master the knowledge of embedded technologies for the applications in medical devices.
