Catalog description

The course teaches the fundamental principles of medical device with the emphasis on system integration. It has four major modules, i.e. sensor, signal conditioning (analog amplifier and filter), data acquisition, and data analysis and display. The first two modules introduce the mechanism of sensors such as strain gauge and thermal couple, and the basic circuits of amplifiers and filters. The last two modules introduce the Nyquist theory of data acquisition and the data analysis tools such as spectrum analysis and digital filter with the help LabVIEW, the software platform for measurement, control and system integration. Topics of the biopotential, blood pressure and blood flow measurements are also discussed. The course concludes with the final project of electrocardiograph where the students will build the ECG amplifier and the application for a complete electrocardiograph with the ECG analysis. After completion of the course, students will master the principles and build experiences of the design of medical devices.
