An introduction to the history of art in Europe and the Americas with a focus on the transition from Medieval times through the Renaissance and Baroque in Europe. Works of art are studied both as individual monuments with intrinsic aesthetic appeal and as expressions of the needs, ideals, and aspirations of the particular society within which they were created.
