Ethical and Responsible Research in Anthropology

Catalog description

Advances students’ ability to (a) understand the ethical issues most commonly encountered in anthropological research, (b) develop personal ethical skills and convictions, (c) conduct themselves according to standards acceptable within and beyond the field of anthropology, and (d) develop skills necessary to succeed as an ethical and responsible professional. Topics addressed include data management, scientific misconduct, plagiarism, authorship, mentoring, fieldwork, human subjects research, and animal subjects research. Students will complete the formal training requirements for Responsible Conduct of Research and Scholarship certification following Stony Brook University policy.
