Zooarchaeology

Catalog description

The study of animal bones from archaeological sites. Special emphasis is on the identification of mammalian bones and teeth and on understanding how faunal specimens can be used to build inferences about ancient societies. Students will learn techniques for identifying fragmentary specimens, assigning age and sex to remains, and interpreting bone surface modifications. Students record and analyze sample assemblages.
