Catalog description

This course examines issues of risk analysis, communication, and management. These issues are at the nexus of issues of environmental sustainability, management, and justice, and issues of human decision-making under conditions of uncertainty and stress. By the end of this course, students should understand how information from risk assessments are interpreted by individuals involved in all aspects of environmental decision making and by the general public. Students will learn how to identify the technical and socioeconomic tradeoffs associated with diverse approaches to environmental management, and how to use risk models and other decision support methods to analyze environmental sustainability issues and contribute to management decisions.
