TRAUMA & RISK IN YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS

Catalog description

Prerequisite: Baccalaureate degree from accredited institution. This course explores the intersection of trauma, biopsychosocial development, and institutional involvement in youth and young adults. Traumas such as Adverse Childhood Events (ACE) and Military Trauma (combat, MST) will be explored along with associated responses such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Moral Injury, justice involvement, and disrupted neuropsychosocial development. Primary focus will be on gaining a better understanding of the lived experiences of both juvenile justice-involved youth and young Veterans of the OIF/OER/OND (Operation Iraqi Freedom; Operation Enduring Freedom; Operation New Dawn) conflicts and exploration into the cutting edge and controversial evidence-based, strengths-based, and trauma-informed practices that attempt to support their healthy social, mental health, and developmental outcomes.
