DIRECT PRACTICE WITH GROUPS

Catalog description

Students in this advanced course will develop social work practice behaviors that can be utilized to advance the well-being of a range of systems (individuals, groups, families, communities and organizations) within the context of working with groups as a primary system. Content on diversity, social justice, strengths, risk and protective factors, resiliency, and capacity building perspectives are emphasized. Through learning about the roots and history of group work practice; critically evaluating current research, policy, and direct practice findings; exploring and critically examining professional group work practitioner behavior; engaging in the process of assessing, intervening and evaluating the application of course content; and utilizing a process of on-going self-reflection and self-evaluation, students will substantively and effectively prepare for future professional action-based social work practice that effectively addresses the needs of diverse systems through group work.
