Environmental sociology, a growing subfield of sociology, examines the relationship between social systems and ecosystems. It explores the many ways human societies and the natural world shape one another. This course provides an overview of central debates in environmental sociology and explores current environmental topics from a sociological perspective. By the end of the course, students will be able to describe key themes in environmental sociology and explain how environmental sociologists think about issues like the global climate crisis; the relationship between imperialism/colonialism and resource extraction; and the environmental impacts of food production, energy production, and ecotourism
