LGBTQ PSYCHOLOGY

Catalog description

This course will cover theoretical perspectives and empirical findings on a range of basic and applied topics related to sexual orientation and gender identity. Various aspects of the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) individuals will be explored, including identity development, minority stress, mental and physical health, intervention efforts, and LGBTQ communities. Relevant historical factors will be discussed that have broadly impacted LGBTQ individuals, including the HIV/AIDS crisis and societal reactions and acceptance of LGBTQ individuals. Queer theory will be discussed and the experiences of LGBTQ individuals will be compared with those of heterosexual, cis-gender individuals.
