Catalog description

Community psychology goes beyond an individual focus and integrates social, cultural, economic, political, environmental, and international influences to promote positive change, health, and empowerment at multiple levels. At its core, community psychology is the study of how individuals relate to their communities and the reciprocal effects of communities on individuals. This course will explore theories, methodologies, and research on a broad range of topics in community psychology, including prevention, social change, dissemination, empowerment, and participatory research methods. This course will provide opportunities for students to learn about frameworks and approaches used in community psychology and to practice them in a combination of reading, writing, watching, listening, and doing.
