This Political Theory seminar focuses on the development of modern political theory from the sixteenth century onwards. Primary source readings from Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Burke, and Marx. Contrast of modern and classical political theory. Consideration of modern political theory as it has affected actual regimes -- the relationship between theory and praxis.
