EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE IN PHYSICAL THERAPY I

Catalog description

This is the first course in a two-course sequence designed to encourage use of the principles of evidence-based practice, integrating clinical expertise, patients' preference/values, and research evidence to produce a therapeutic alliance. This 3-credit course will focus on the study of clinical reasoning using the Patient/ Client Management Model presented in the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice, ICF and HOAC II as the framework for decision making. Foundational knowledge and understanding of research theory, purpose, design and analysis are expected through previous research courses and statistics. This course emphasizes research methodologies, the application of these approaches to health professions' clinical research questions, and the analysis of available evidence as it relates to patient care. PREREQUISITE: Basic Statistics Course and completion of summer tutorial. A statistics exam will be administered during the second class of the semester and proficiency of 80% is required. Enrollment in the Physical Therapy Program at Stockton University and successful completion of all previous DPT coursework is required.
