Death is a driving force that myth seeks to describe, and philosophy seeks to explain. We will explore theories of death from ancient to contemporary philosophy and psychoanalysis, and study the function of myths in coping with the limits of our symbolic grasp of extinguished life. Plato, Epicurus, Bruno, Pascal, Schopenhauer, Freud, Jaspers, Feyerabend, Lacan, Ricoeur, and others, will guide us in realizing how death is the master of beauty.
