OLDER ADULT OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY INTERVENTION

Catalog description

This course builds on student's skills required to develop treatment interventions while considering the impact of aging, diseases, and chronic illness as it relates to the participation in meaningful occupations and occupational performance in older adulthood. Students will identify frames of reference appropriate for intervention with the older adult population. Students will employ clinical reasoning and creative problem solving in the selection of aids to independent living, management of architectural barriers and modification of client factors. The role of the caregiver, end of life topics, quality of life, and supervision of the OTA is explored in a variety of service settings. Students develop more advanced skills in documentation to support client care and reimbursement with an emphasis on Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance. Offered Spring semester only.
