PEDIATRIC PRACTICUM

Catalog description
This clinical course will focus on assessment, diagnosis and treatment of common pediatric conditions. It will integrate the didactic material presented in NURS 5541, Primary Care of the pediatric patient in which health promotion and disease prevention will be emphasized throughout the course. Issues of gender, class and culture will be considered when caring for patients. Roy's Adaptation Model will serve as the theoretical framework for this course and will be integrated in all problem solving/critical thinking activites. Clinical experience is facilitated through a preceptor model in which preceptors MUST be a licensed physician (MD or DO) in the state of New Jersey or a nurse practitioner (NP) that is nationally certified as an ANP/AGPCNP/FNP and licensed to practice in the state of New Jersey. Concurrent enrollment in Adult I(NURS 5541) is required. At least 200 hours must be spent in clinical areas with preceptor supervision. Students are expected to arrange times and dates with clinical preceptors.
