Catalog description
This course explores the mechanisms of disease and alterations in body defenses of all body systems. General physiological and pathophysiological principles that govern (a) inflammation, (b) cellular/tissue repair, (c) genetics, (d) immunity, and (e) neoplasia will be discussed during this course. Genetic control and environmental impact on disease are explored in detail in which health and illness are often directly linked to their influences. The understanding of pathophysiology includes: (a) disease process, (b) prevention, (c) clinical signs and symptoms, (d) secondary effects of disease, and (e) methods of treatment, which will enable the health professional to provide optimal curative and rehabilitative services.
