Prerequisite: Licensure as an RN in NJ. CHEM 2110 or GNM 2502This three module course begins with a comprehensive introduction to the field of epidemiology and focuses on concepts that support health. Identification of causal factors and modes of transmission using statistics and biomedical information will contribute to an understanding of the science of epidemiology. Historical development, specific population indicators and chronic disease epidemiology will provide a foundation for further study. Module two will focus on the science of genetics and its growing role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders. The biological, psychological and social implications of genetics will be explored. The multifactorial relationship of genes and the environment, the basis of genetic inheritance, the influence of mutations, and ethical issues will provide a foundation for professional nurses to more completely provide patient care. Basic principles of pharmacology provide the focus for module three. Pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug interactions, adverse drug reactions and drug therapy across the life span complete the course learning activities.Faculty: Nursing Faculty
