Catalog description
This two module course begins with a comprehensive introduction to the field of genetics and focuses on concepts that support health. Identification of factors influencing single gene and chromosomal disorders in the context of inheritance patterns and spontaneous gene mutations will be covered. The use of statistics and biomedical information will contribute to an understanding of the science of genetics and its growing role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders. The biological, psychological and social implications of genetics & genomics will be explored, including the multifactorial relationship of genes and the environment. Ethical issues will provide a foundation for professional nurses to provide comprehensive patient care. Basic principles of Nutrition will provide the focus for module two.
