Catalog description

Students should be prepared for field work (proper clothing, sun and bug protection). Also expect weather dependent changes to meeting days times.This lecture/lab course will allow the student to observe, participate and understand how to implement a field investigation in Underwater Archaeology using remote sensing technology, (Side Scan Sonar, Remote Vehicles ROV's) and post-processing sonar data software to construct detailed mapping of prospective archaeology sites. The student will gain hands on experience in operating and interpreting side scan sonar technology/data as well as introduction to standard field methods for site exploration on land.Prerequisite: PERMISSION OF INSTRUCTOR REQUIRED.
