Catalog description

During the Nazi era, the vast majority of Germens were baptized Christians. During the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, the vast majority of Hutus and Tutsis were baptized Christians. Yet, neither the Roman Catholic nor the Protestant Christian churches in either country or on either continent (Europe and Africa) helped to prevent genocide. Why? What went wrong? Why did religious leaders and their followers collude with Nazi German state power and with Belgian colonial government to carry out genocide? How, and why, did a religion of love (Christianity) fail so miserably during the Holocaust and during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda? These are some of the questions this on-line course will explore about the Holocaust and the 1994 genocide in Rwanda.
